The Ivy Collection commissioned AH Evergreen to create a bespoke feature tree for the entrance to the new private dining room at The Ivy Asia, St Paul’s.

Designed specifically for a challenging corner position, the installation brings together a real kiln-dried tree trunk, bespoke artificial foliage, integrated architectural lighting, a custom planter and an Asian-inspired bench to create one cohesive feature.

The natural trunk was carefully adapted and sculpted to follow the architecture of the space, with each joint individually blended into the existing bark. The result is a seamless transition between the natural timber and our handcrafted sections, making it extremely difficult to distinguish where one ends and the other begins.

Lighting was designed as an integral part of the tree rather than an addition. Seven matt bronze spotlights are discreetly positioned throughout the canopy, complemented by a further two spotlights within the planter. Integrated LED lighting beneath the bespoke bench highlights the carpentry and adds a subtle layer of ambient light.

The complete lighting scheme is connected to the restaurant’s DALI control system, allowing the tree, planter and bench lighting to be adjusted throughout the day and into the evening as the atmosphere of the restaurant changes.

The finished installation demonstrates our approach to bespoke artificial tree design: combining real natural materials at eye level with specialist fabrication, artificial foliage, integrated lighting and bespoke joinery to create a feature that feels entirely at home within its surroundings.
